A father driving nine hours in February — CELPIP Speaking Task 1

One of the 24 questions in the Task 1 pool — 30 seconds to prepare, 90 seconds to speak, no second take. What the section is: the CELPIP test format.

19 Your father wants to drive nine hours to the mountains for a long weekend in February, leaving after work on Friday night with his two grandchildren in the car. Tell him what you think he should do, and why.

Speaking to: your father

What the question is asking for

Four facts are stacked: the distance, the night, the month, and the children. You are asked what he should change, not whether driving is dangerous in general.

What to settle in the 30 seconds

Pick the single thing to change — when he leaves, who drives, or whether the trip happens — and hold the reason beside it.

Where this one goes wrong

Being vague about the risk. “Be careful” is not advice; naming the tiredness after a full shift, or the road in February, is.
