A co-worker with no credit history here — CELPIP Speaking Task 1
One of the 24 questions in the Task 1 pool — 30 seconds to prepare, 90 seconds to speak, no second take. What the section is: the CELPIP test format.
23 A co-worker, Nils, has been in the country two years, pays for everything in cash and has never wanted a credit card. Last week a landlord turned down his application because he has no credit history here. Tell him what you think he should do, and why.
Speaking to: Nils, a co-worker
What the question is asking for
What he does about having no record here. Two years of cash is the background; the rejected application is the thing to act on.
What to settle in the 30 seconds
Have one step towards a record and one thing you would warn him away from.
Where this one goes wrong
Blaming the landlord. The question is how Nils changes his position, not whether the refusal was fair to him.
