A neighbour offered a job in another city — CELPIP Speaking Task 1
One of the 24 questions in the Task 1 pool — 30 seconds to prepare, 90 seconds to speak, no second take. What the section is: the CELPIP test format.
2 Your neighbour Dev has been offered a job in another city. The pay is better, but his two children are happy at their school here. Tell him what you think he should do, and why.
Speaking to: Dev, your neighbour
What the question is asking for
Two good things are in conflict — the pay and the children’s school. You are asked to weigh them against each other, not to describe both and stop.
What to settle in the 30 seconds
Decide which of the two you are willing to give up, and say which one in your first sentence. The rest of the 90 seconds is the reason.
Where this one goes wrong
Sitting on the fence. “It depends what he wants” hands the question back to Dev and leaves you a minute of nothing to develop.
